The Boardroom is Indianapolis' first
(and, in our opinion, best) game store. The Boardroom was first opened on November
the 14th 1977, next door to a pet store, by the illustrious Gerald E. Hunter. He
didn't know whether this was a good idea or not, but prior to that he had been in
the process of becoming an attorney, so he decided being a game store owner would
surely be an improvement. At the time, the gaming community in Indianapolis was
mostly card players and war gamers. D&D was new to the scene, and many dartboards
were still made of cork.
In 1981,
The Boardroom moved for the first time, to a location across the street from Glendale
Mall. Gaming was an ever-expanding area, with new products coming into the market all
the time. Some would gather huge, loyal followings in the years to come, and some
would end up like lawn darts, or parachute pants - best forgotten and never seen
again.
In 1989, The Boardroom made its
third and final move to the south side of Broad Ripple Avenue in the historic Broad
Ripple area - famous for its independent shops, beautiful architecture, and many, many
bars.
Currently, we offer Indy's largest
selection of role-playing and strategic war games, as well as buying and selling a
wide selection of used games. We specialize in rare and hard-to-find games that you
won't see anywhere else in town.
Many people
from Indy's gaming community have worked at The Boardroom in the past, and some of
you may do so in the future. Others have never been employed here, but have been
important to us and to the Indy gaming community through the years. To those who help
us and enrich our business and community, we thank you. In regards to everyone else,
we have many things to say but it would be unprofessional to state them here. Thank
you, and we hope to see you soon!
